Dear Friends,
Copper Island Academy is an emerging charter school in the Copper Country. We are seeking monetary donations to support our efforts to define and create a premier education for local students.
The proposed school will serve students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Students in our community will benefit from the successes of the Finnish education model. Through collaboration with community members, local businesses, and other organizations, students will also learn about many possible life/career pathways beginning in the very young grades. Our goal is to develop well-rounded, empowered students in a collaborative, community-like environment.
Please consider contributing to Friends of Copper Island Academy to bring this charter school to fruition. All donation pledges submitted prior to the December 7th application deadline will be matched by an anonymous donor, up to $10,000 per pledge and a $100,000 total. Pledges will be shared within the charter application to demonstrate financial support for our proposed school. The funding will be used to pay salaries, hire consultants, and support the application and charter development process. A pledge template can be found at this link. Pledges can be emailed to nlaho@copperislandacademy.org, saho@copperislandacademy.org, and/or keweenawheritage@gmail.com.
We are currently finalizing the legal nonprofit paperwork required to obtain 501(c)(3) nonprofit status with the IRS. All donations will be considered tax deductible once nonprofit status is obtained. IRS approval is not likely to occur until 2021, but it is retroactive to all donations. You may want to delay filing your tax return until the IRS approval is received. Please consult your tax advisor.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Friends of Copper Island Academy

Board Chair
